This article is an excerpt from our eBook which is available on Amazon Kindle.
What To Sell
Video instruction of your expertise on a specific topic. Generally measured in the 1-4 hour length in total.
How to Get the Products
Grab your camera and brush up some PowerPoint slides, and you have everything you need to make a successful online course. Generally, Entrepreneurs video capture their screens as they walkthrough the content and publish the videos in 10-20 minute sections.
How to Get Customers
Many Entrepreneurs are using platforms like Teachable and Udemy to list their products. You can also sell your course on your own blog or website and advertise on Facebook or YouTube.
For higher priced courses, most Entrepreneurs are using software platforms like Click Funnels or Sam Cart to act as their own platform to sell their course, manage payments, as well as deliver the course videos to paid customers.
Advantages
Selling digital products can be an amazing business model because there is low to no cost to obtain your products. When you are selling information in the form of your expertise, you have an unlimited inventory of courses for free on your laptop! And with no cost of goods, generally the profit margins are much higher than physical products.
Disadvantages
Online courses are often priced higher, like in the $97 – $197 range depending on the topic. In that case the decision to buy your product becomes a lot harder for your customer, and therefore they need to KNOW, LIKE and TRUST you. That often leads entrepreneurs into building sales funnel to develop and nurture the relationship with potential customers until they are comfortable to buy from you. That is where Click Funnels as a platform comes in handy.
Risks
The biggest risk with this business model, like many others covered, is spending money on advertising products that customers don’t actually buy. Or in this case, Templates that just aren’t profitable at their price point. If it costs you $15 to advertise to get a $10 sale you don’t have a business!
Money Needed to Get Started
$200-$400 for a website platform, including Click Funnels, and initial advertising budget.
Expected Profit (% of sale price)
50%
