Q&A: Can I make money selling products on Shopify?

Oh man I get this question ALL the time so it makes a great topic here. I wish I knew how to make the title of this article a variable like “Can I make money doing XYZ” because the answer is pretty much the same.

Q: Can I make money selling products on Shopify? (or insert any other business model)

Here’s my thought. YES you CAN, but only you can decide if you WILL!

YES I am sure people are making money selling products on Shopify. I even do it.

But more importantly, the more Entrepreneurs I know the more I think you can make money doing just about anything!

Here’s the other part of that – which is I don’t think there are ANY “easy” ways to make money. They all take time and work.

So what I like to recommend is to find an area where you have an interest and passion for it. Which is key.

Because no matter what you try to start in business, eventually you hit “the dip” as Seth Godin talks about which is the time after the motivation and excitement wears off, you hit the dip where it’s still not working but you have been working hard and still have to keep working at it.

And then pay attention to what the hard part is. For Selling product on Shopify the HARD pat is not finding products to sell its actually getting customers to your store, and getting them to your store profitably!

So I think the top 5-10% of people who take seriously ANY way to make money online and work hard to figure out the rest of the business model about how to actually get sales will make money. So be prepared to do the hard work to learn and study and research how to figure it all out so you can be in the top 5-10% of people who try it. I think Seth Godin calls this “deep work” which is the hard work that you have to put in to learn through experience, not just by reading about it etc.

So if there is an interest and passion for what you are working on that will be the best route to try for entrepreneurship, because you have to enjoy the work way before any results show up. It’s like a woman I just heard about who blogged every day for a year before she really started to make any money from her blog.
